OAKLAND, CA ? QualStar Communications, a competitive provider based in Defiance, Ohio, will deploy an FTTx network using the Zhone MXK platform. The new deployment will support delivery of more affordable and reliable high-speed Internet access, VoIP and eventually video services to the subscribers of QualStar?s affiliated ISP, MetaLINK.
MetaLINK needed a full range of delivery mediums that could be deployed side by side ? a feature found in Zhone?s MXK ? to limit the cost of its network upgrades and ongoing broadband deployments. The demonstrated flexibility and scalability of the MXK platform, and its ability to provide active Ethernet, which MetaLINK uses for business broadband, will help future-proof the network for more advanced service rollouts and also reduce recurring operating expenses.
?Zhone?s effective network management capabilities were key factors in our decision to deploy the MXK platform,? says Phil Maag, president of QualStar. ?The increased performance, density and scale, and the zNID ONTs [customer-premises equipment], addressed our network complexity and challenges such as providing a competitive solution in a market saturated with providers. This new fiber network with active Ethernet allows us to provide advanced communications and connectivity to our customers.?
