Union Propaganda Machine to Back Obama in 2012 (ContributorNetwork)

COMMENTARY | The major unions have essentially announced that they are endorsing President Barack Obama in the 2012 election. Note that this was done well before we even knew who it is that will be running against him. This should come as no surprise to anyone since the unions would back a turnip if it announced that it was a Democrat. I have always felt that the unions were a major reason why so many people have the misconception that Republicans are only for big business.

I grew up in a household where Solidarity magazine was delivered throughout the year. My father retired a union member and gave into the thought that Republicans were only for businesses while Democrats were for the everyday person. Why wouldn't he? This was the type of rhetoric that he read about in the magazine that was meant to keep UAW members in touch with the actions and environment of the union.

Over the years I noticed that whenever a Republican made any type of move that could harm the unions, it was on the front page of Solidarity magazine. Few stories ever made it through about Democrats who gave any type of support or aid to any major business. It was made to look like this never happened. It was filtered news given out to the masses to bring hatred of the "Keep 'em Down" Republicans.

Go out tonight and ask people on the street what the basis of the Democratic Party is. Then ask them about what the basis of the Republican Party is. Chances are good that they would get the two questions wrong. They would tell you that the Democrats are for the common person or workers and that Republicans are for Big Business.

The basis of the Republican Party is that more power should reside in the hands of the states so that we can have a smaller federal system. The Democrats believe more power should reside in a centralized government and less in the hands of the state. The original thought about Republicans being soft on business stems from their thought that the federal government should not regulate business -- it should be the job of the state. That last part is usually left off when reading something like Solidarity magazine.
